Sights of Doha

Okay, so I have been told that Kelsey is hijacking this blog.

Here is an interesting picture of the construction of a minaret (i believe this is what this is called). Mosques were originally not built with minarets. Minarets now provide a visual of a Muslim community. It is the highest point of any standing structure near by. It is from this high point that call to prayer is broadcast 5 times per day. A minaret can also act as an air conditioner, drawing air in through the windows of the mosque and then the hot air is pushed up and out of the minaret. The tallest minaret can be found in Morocco. Minarets are quite beautiful, each one different from the next and there are A LOT of mosques here. The direction like turn at the mosque is really useless because there is a mosque on nearly every corner! ;-)
