The Loss of our Macey Baby

So when Michael took Macey in on Wednesday, they put her under a mild sedation to do an x-ray and some blood work. The blood work came back good and the x-ray didn't show much as a result of her weight. However the doctor could feel a mass and was encouraged to do the surgery because of her blood work. When they did the surgery, Macey did have a very large mass that appeared to be cancerous and quite advanced. She also had internal bleeding resulting in her shortness of breath, which is why Michael brought her in. They were hopeful that by removing the mass that was attached to her spleen that she would at least recover long enough to have some more time with us though they were quite certain that the cancer was spreading and that it was to an untreatable stage. Regardless, she did not make it through the recovery process, it was just too much for her.

Michael feels very confident that she was treated well. This is the doctor who we and most other expats use in Doha, they are very good and compassionate.

Obviously this is very hard on us, especially Michael, who is having to take care of all of this alone. Those of you who know us know that Macey was our life and that Kelsey is just an added bonus! ;-)

When Michael got home, there were two cats at the door, not our usual strays, but almost like they were there to pass along their condolences. Amazing right?!

Just don't have it in me to post pictures at this point. Please say a prayer for our furry baby.

Gina - So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Macey; and I'm especially sorry to hear that Michael has to go through this while you are not around for mutual support. Macey was certainly a lucky kitty to be as loved and treasured as much as she was by her humans - and of course she returned that love, I know. I do hope that you will be able to take some comfort in knowing that she does not have to suffer with the final effects of the cancer and other related problems. PEACE!

Gina & Michael, I am so sorry to hear about Macey. I know that she was a special part of your family. I think there is a saying, "All CATS Go to Heaven". I'm sure she's looking down watching over little sis, Kelsey.

Oh, Gina! I am so sad to hear this. Glad to know that you both are at peace with the ways she was treated at the vet, though. That is always comforting.

I know she will still continue to watch out for her lil sis, from up above.

Our condolences.
