ASD Booster Club Softball Tournament

This past weekend, Michael, along with many coworkers, participated in the Annual ASD Booster Club Softball Tournament. Evidently the team he played on has been participating in this tournament for the past 7 or so years. It wasn't until this year that they won the CHAMPIONSHIP! Now I am sure that MICHAEL being on the team AND winning the CHAMPIONSHIP are purely coincidental! ;-)

OMG! Rain

Seriously had to jump on to tell you it is RAINING IN DOHA! What a treat!!! Thunder and lightning too!!!

BTW-What's it like in Chitown???

Chicago Sun-Times & Qatar

My mom recently sent me a link to an article featured in the Chicago Sun-Times. Hard to believe that 2.5 years ago I couldn't have located Qatar on a map. Today, I could have written that article! Click here to see the article!

Michael Gets a Haircut

Conditions in the desert were not favorable for sightseeing, so Michael ended up taking his mom with him to get a haircut. Places like these are a dime a dozen here. This street is just lined with saloon after saloon after saloon!

This Isn't the Golden Corral!

On Friday, we went to brunch at the Intercontinental Hotel. This is a 5 star buffet which caters to your every need and taste bud. Seafood and sushi lovers would not be disappointed! Kelsey was the hit of the buffet as she was sporting the most adorable outfit complete with LARGE red embroidered bow, which has since been lost!

Dunes Baby

Unfortunately it was quite windy the day Michael took his mom out to the dunes. Maw Maw decided against riding the camel after seeing my dad ride one! ;-) "HOLY MACARONI!"

Shopping at the Souks

On One Hand...

...I can count the number of times in a year that we will have rain in Doha! On Saturday, Michael's mom witnessed RAIN!!!

Here are some drops to prove it! ;-)

Shawarmas

You can't come to Doha and not try some of the authentic food. One must have is a shawarma, a fast-food staple in the Middle East. So one night we ordered "baby chicken shawarmas"! They are so yummy! A friend in the compound always orders them. So I emailed her and asked her for the phone number. Her reply included 4 phone numbers with the instruction to call each number until someone answers in English! We have no clue where these baby chicken shawarmas come from, but they hit the spot and at $ .50/shawarma, they are a cheap treat!

Kelsey Goes Swimming!

Kelsey went swimming today for the first time! She loves her bath, so I figured she would love the pool and she did. It is a lot of work getting her packed up for the pool...a swim diaper, swimsuit, flotation device, towel, change of clothes...on and on. Not to mention a swimsuit on me (ugh)!

It was all worth it! She can't wait to go back in!

Majilis Seating Please

We went to an Iranian restaurant for dinner Wednesday night. Pictures do not do this restaurant justice. The decor is completely over the top. You can either have dinner at a table, or you can eat majilis style, meaning on the floor. Michael's poor mom, we made her eat on the floor...when in Rome, do as the Romans! It was great for Kelsey, I was able to spread out a blanket and let her roll!

There is a special room that you can rent for the evening and it is unreal...again photos can't do it justice but really quite amazing to see!

Of course one of the servers just fell in love with Kelsey. He said she was so advanced, so we let him hold her! ;-)
